Event Type: Seminars, Conferences
Date: February 5, 2024 to February 6, 2024
The National Assembly of Lao PDR, as the AIPA Presidency, will host the Coordinating Committee Meeting of WAIPA. This meeting will be held back-to-back with the Women Political Leaders Forum and WAIPA Project Workshop 2.0. This will be a two-day event held across 5th and 6th February 2024 in Vientiane, Lao PDR. It will explore how parliamentarians can collectively ensure meaningful participation of women in policymaking and parliamentary processes.
The events will bring together AIPA Member Parliaments for a solution-focused exploration within the Women Political Leaders Forum. The aim is to strengthen women’s political participation and leadership, integrating it into regional connectivity through intensified collaboration across the region. This initiative aligns closely with the overarching theme of the National Assembly of Lao PDR’s AIPA presidency.
Tentative sub-themes through which the Women Political Leaders Forum will be explored include:
- Strengthening women’s political participation and leadership in promoting resilience and sustaining peace
- Fostering connections and inter-generational collaboration of female leaders
Building on the adopted resolution on Enhancing ASEAN Resilience Through Women Leadership and Gender-Responsive Parliaments at the 44th AIPA General Assembly, AIPA member Parliaments will jointly deliberate the ASEAN Plan of Action on Women’s Political Participation 2024-2028 and generate strategies for the Implementation Framework in the WAIPA Workshop 2.0. This will form the basis of a regional call to action on promoting women’s political participation in achieving a resilient and inclusive ASEAN community. These two key documents will also be taken into consideration and tabled at the Coordinating Committee Meeting of WAIPA.
The event is participated by invitation only and not for public.
