Civil society organizations (CSOs) have been instrumental in driving forward the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda in Southeast Asia. Recognizing their critical role, UN Women, is organizing a Virtual Award Ceremony to honour outstanding CSOs under the PEACE Award for Good Practices in WPS. Simultaneously, the event will mark the launch of the “Catalogue of Good Practices by CSOs on WPS in Southeast Asia”, showcasing innovative, replicable, and impactful initiatives at the community level that have advanced peacebuilding in Southeast Asia.

The CSOs PEACE Award Competition was launched in 2024 to spotlight the leadership of CSOs working on WPS in ASEAN Member States and Timor-Leste. The initiative aimed to identify and amplify good practices that empower women and promote their participation in conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and both traditional and non-traditional security responses. By elevating these stories, the competition fosters cross-learning, collaboration, and greater visibility for the WPS agenda at the regional level.

This initiative is part of the ASEAN regional project Empowering Women for Sustainable Peace: Preventing Violence and Promoting Social Cohesion in ASEAN, generously supported by the Governments of Canada, the United Kingdom, and the Republic of Korea.
