Enablers and Drivers to Build Peace: From Conflict Prevention to Sustainable Peace

Event Type: Workshop
Date: June 12, 2025 to June 13, 2025
Venue: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Malaysia’s ASEAN theme in 2025 is centred around inclusivity and sustainability. As the AICHR Chair, Malaysia has identified peace, environmental human rights, and inclusive and sustainable development as its key priorities for the year.
This first workshop, titled Enablers and Drivers to Build Peace: From Conflict Prevention to Sustainable Peace marks the first in a series of six iterative and interconnected workshops that AICHR will host throughout 2025.
The workshops are aimed at enhancing ASEAN pathways to, and conceptual framework on, peace, conflict management, prevention, resolution and recovery, drawing on the diverse role, experiences and contribution of all population groups, including women to ensure that approach is inclusive, comprehensive and actionable. They will be designed to provide structured platforms for discussion, foster meaningful dialogue, and ensure thorough documentation for historical record and institutional memory.
AICHR will also launch its Thematic Study on the Right to Peace that was adopted at AICHR’s 40th Meeting and Retreat in Langkawi, Malaysia, held from 11 to 14 February 2025. A panel discussion on the study’s findings will be convened. Key to the discussion is actionable follow-up action that AICHR can take on the right to peace.
Following the launch, the programme continues with a regional consultation on the proposed ASEAN Declaration on Promoting the Right to Development and Peace Towards Realising Inclusive and Sustainable Development (PSDG Declaration). At its Special Meeting 1/2025, AICHR had on 10 April 2025 agreed on the text of the Declaration which is now being consulted on.
