Visibility and Knowledge-Sharing Event on Advancing Women, Peace and Security in ASEAN
Highlighting Results, Lessons Learned and Good Practices from the Implementation of the ASEAN Regional Plan of Action on Women, Peace and Security
Event Type: Conferences
Date: March 17, 2026 to March 17, 2026
Venue: Indonesia and hybrid
Over the past five years, ASEAN has made significant progress in advancing the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda, including through the adoption of the ASEAN Regional Plan of Action on Women, Peace and Security (ASEAN RPA-WPS) and the establishment of coordination, monitoring and knowledge-sharing mechanisms at the regional level. With support from the Governments of the United Kingdom, Canada and the Republic of Korea, UN Women has provided sustained technical assistance to ASEAN institutions, sectoral bodies and Member States to strengthen regional ownership and implementation of the WPS agenda.
As the programme Empowering Women for Sustainable Peace: Preventing Violence and Promoting Social Cohesion in ASEAN enters its final phase (2021–March 2026), a final independent evaluation is being completed. Preliminary findings confirm that the programme has been highly relevant, effective and catalytic in strengthening ASEAN’s WPS architecture, promoting inter-pillar coordination, and supporting localisation efforts at national and community levels.
At the same time, the programme has generated a substantial body of regional knowledge products, including policy research, guidance tools, videos documenting good practices, and digital resources hosted on the ASEAN WPS Knowledge Hub. There is strong demand from ASEAN institutions, Member States, civil society and dialogue partners to reflect on these findings, capture lessons learned, and promote good practices to inform ongoing implementation of the ASEAN RPA-WPS and future programming.
In this context, the proposed visibility and knowledge-sharing event will provide a strategic platform to:
(i) share key evaluation findings and lessons learned;
(ii) showcase concrete examples of WPS implementation in ASEAN through curated knowledge products and videos; and
(iii) reinforce donor visibility and partnerships
