Women, Peace and Security Training Programme of ASEAN-IPR

Event Type: Training
Date: June 17, 2025 to June 19, 2025
Venue: Bangkok, Thailand
Since 2021, ASEAN-IPR initiated the development of training modules specifically aimed at equipping relevant government officials of ASEAN Member States (AMS) with the necessary knowledge and skills set on conflict resolution and peacebuilding from a gender perspective, in line with the pillars of the WPS Agenda as prescribed by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 1325.
Four modules developed, aimed at different target participants:
- Module 0 = An Overview of Women, Peace and Security
- Module 1 = Conflict Analysis (for mid-level officials)
- Module 2 = Conflict Resolution, Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Recovery, and Peacebuilding (for mid-level officials)
- Module 3 = Senior-Level Seminar on Peace Processes and Policy-Making (for senior-level officials)
After the successful conduct of Module 1 and 2 last year, on 17-19 June 2025, the final training module of the WPS Training Program will take place, focusing on Module Three and targeting senior-level officials.
Organised with the support of the UK Mission to ASEAN and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the training was a critical component of ASEAN’s ongoing efforts to enhance peace, security, and stability across the region through a gender-inclusive approach.
The Training Programme will invite government officials from ASEAN Member States and Timor-Leste – mainly from the defence and security sectors – who have previously had little to no prior exposure to WPS Agenda, to contribute towards strengthening regional capacity development in implementing WPS agenda and mainstreaming gender in the peace and security sector.
Meanwhile, the entire set of training modules is expected to be finalised by the end of this year.
