Abstract
In 2023, the world faced unprecedented challenges. Despite these difficult circumstances, UN Women supported UN Member States, local civil society partners, and the UN system to advance peace and stability through our work on the women, peace, and security and disaster risk reduction agendas.
This highlights report provides insights into some of the critical and high-impact work that UN Women is doing on the ground in countries, and at the regional and global levels.
In 2023, UN Women supported UN Member States, facilitated women to prevent conflicts, ensured women were at the centre of reducing risks from disasters, worked with CSO partners to foster peace, supported women to recover from crises, catalysed investment in women, peace, security, and resilience, and improved access to evidence and information to support responsive policy and programming interventions.
From Afghanistan to Ukraine, from the Pacific Islands to Haiti, from Palestine to Sudan, UN Women stays in times of crisis and delivers for women and girls. In 2022–2023, women, peace and security, humanitarian action, and disaster risk reduction were UN Women’s largest areas of work, with a total combined expenditure of USD 217.62 million globally. Much of this was implemented through UN Women’s country offices in partnership with local civil society organizations and is aligned to UN Women’s strategic objectives at the country level.
