[Tetum with Engish subtitle] "Matria: Their Struggle, Our Future," this powerful documentary sheds light on the untold stories of women who played a vital role in the Timorese Resistance. From 1975 to 2002, these courageous women were resistance forces, strategic planners and activists alongside men, providing essential logistical support and safeguarding cultural identity. They were actively engaged in international negotiations and diplomatic dialogues for peace. The film highlights their resilience in the face of persecution and violence, showcasing how their contributions were crucial to the survival and success of the Resistance. It is a part of UN Women’s broader efforts to recognize Timorese women's leadership in peacebuilding, and this film offers a gender-responsive perspective on conflict and celebrates the enduring legacy of these unsung heroes. This documentary was launched officially as part of the International Women's Day 2025 celebration in Timor-Leste on 8th of March.
