In Timor-Leste, mediators are recognized as the first responders to conflict cases. They intervene to prevent escalation of tension and nurture a culture of tolerance and peace. In partnership with the Ministry of Interior, UN Women has been supporting the provision of gender-responsive trainings for mediators through the “Empowering Women for Sustainable Peace: Preventing Violence and Promoting Social Cohesion in ASEAN” project supported by the Governments of Canada, the Republic of Korea, and the United Kingdom.
